01 The big idea

For fifty years we have taught people to think like machines. Futura One exists to do the opposite: to teach technology to behave a little more like the people it serves. Patient. Repairable. Honest about what it knows. Gentle with the planet that powers it. Built for being human, not for being optimised.

Digitalisation asks what can be
automated?
Humanisation asks what should be?

We work in the space between, where the second question gets asked first.

02 What we are doing

Five fields where technology could be a lot kinder

We develop concepts, prototypes and new products in each, alone and with partners who want to build them.

  1. Products and infrastructure designed around their whole life: what they are made of, what they consume, how they are repaired, and where they go when they are done.

    • energy
    • materials
    • circular hardware
  2. AI and automation that can explain themselves, ask before they take, and keep a person in the loop wherever a decision touches a life.

    • explainability
    • consent
    • accountability
  3. Interfaces that respect attention instead of harvesting it. Quiet by default, legible to everyone, and honest about what is happening underneath.

    • calm technology
    • accessibility
    • attention
  4. Technology for the moments that matter most: looking after each other, growing older, staying connected and well.

    • health
    • ageing
    • community
  5. Ideas released so they can be used, improved and owned by many, not locked away by a few.

    • open source
    • public interest
    • shared data

Bring us a problem, a provocation, or a half-finished idea. If it could make life better for people and the planet, we want to hear it.
